Asthma Right Care Implementation Course

30 Mar 2022

During February and March 2022 we ran an Asthma Right Care Implementation course for new countries. We had 36 delegates representing seven countries: Bermuda, Brazil, France, Netherlands, Romania, Slovenia and Tunisia.

The first session was an introduction to Asthma Right Care and social movements for change, including what Asthma Right Care means in different countries, recognising there is systemic  over-reliance on episodic care, including reliance on SABA and a discussion on stakeholder mapping.  Most are keeping the name "Asthma Right Care" rather than trying to translate it.  In some countries however, "over-reliance"  is less easy to translate, so the words are being considered by each group. For some, it is hard to start the conversation because the stigma of asthma means that people do not want to talk about it.

The second session was a more in depth look at Asthma Right Care including models on stigma and behaviour change. This session also covered the Asthma Right Care tools: Asthma Slide Rule, Question & Challenge Cards and the Reliever Reliance Test. We also looked at how the different countries would start to implement Asthma Right Care by running a Design Charrette - a hands-on workshop that tests prototypes of conversation-starters.

The third session focused on how to use social and mass media to share Asthma Right Care messages.

The course was well received by all delegates and a further session will be organised once the countries have completed their Design Charrettes to discuss how to embed Asthma Right Care further in their locations.
