Steve Holmes

Steve Holmes is a rural family doctor in Somerset, United Kingdom. He completed his specialist training in 1989 and has remained clinically focused. Steve has been a previous chair of the UK-based Primary Care Respiratory Society, worked on many projects with the British Thoracic Society and was a member until recently of the RCGP Council for more than 15 years. He is clinical respiratory lead for his local Somerset Integrated Care System (500,000 population).

He has a longstanding quality improvement, evidence based medicine and medical education background, which has involved considerable national and international work. He has been chair of the UK based National Association of Primary Care Educators, and worked as a senior educator in the NHS South West responsible for Primary Care and GP Specialist Training in Somerset.

Steve remains working with PCRS (Policy Lead, Conference committee) and is the first general practitioner to sit on the British Thoracic Society Council. He is involved in several nationally funded research programmes, is active in teaching quality improvement, leadership and facilitations skills training as well as working on many national respiratory initiatives (children and adult).

Steve has been involved in more than 300 publications and has lectured widely, and is the current chair of the International Primary Care Respiratory Group Education Sub-committee.
