IPCRG resources for World COPD Day 2024

13 Nov 2024

World COPD Day 2024 takes place on 20 November with the theme "know your lung function", and to mark this day IPCRG is highlighting a range of resources we have produced that complement this theme:

Spirometry Simplified

A certified e-learning course with an in-person masterclass to assist primary care to help people with COPD know their lung function, by promoting the widespread and equitable adoption of spirometry. This course was meticulously crafted by an esteemed, experienced global faculty of master teachers of spirometry to primary care.

How We Breathe

An animated film designed for healthcare professionals to help people with COPD improve their "breathing literacy". Available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Brazilian, Chinese, Italian and Bengali.

Desktop Helper No. 14 - Quick guide to spirometry

This desktop helper aims to provide primary care professionals with the information they need to prepare for, conduct, evaluate and interpret spirometry and understand its role and limitations in the diagnosis and monitoring of respiratory disease - so that people with COPD can know their lung function. Available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Greek, Chinese and Vietnamese.

We also encourage all to tune into the COPD Baton Pass on 20 November - a live, global broadcast bringing together healthcare professionals and people with COPD in learning and collaboration to elevate awareness, inspire participation and make a global impact, one lung-friendly exercise at a time. This year, IPCRG CEO Siân Williams (UK) and COPD Magazine Steering Group member Matthieu Brémond (France) will be picking up the baton and leading their own presentations, so make sure to tune in on 20 November.

COPD Right Care

In 2021 the IPCRG initiated the COPD Right Care programme, following the principles of the successful Asthma Right Care movement. We are building a global social movement to improve care for people living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Guided by our strategy document "What does good quality COPD care look like?", we want to show who people with COPD are, what optimal and safe treatment looks like and why personalisation through shared decision-making is something we must champion. This programme has produced a growing set of resources for the 'Right Care' of COPD, for clinicians and people with COPD, including:

COPD Wheel

An interactive tool to start new conversations about personalising care for people with COPD.

COPD Question & Challenge Cards

These cards can be used to start conversations between clinical peers, with people with lived experience and with students about COPD, offering information and asking provocative questions to create more awareness of shortcomings in knowledge and understanding about COPD.

COPD Magazine

An online magazine for people with COPD to support self-managment. It embeds guidance, infographics and links to videos our expert team has curated to educate, motivate and inspire. Issue 1 is out now. Issues 1 and 2 are out now, with issue 3 to follow in early 2025.

Infographics to help self-manage your COPD

Use these infographics to share practical tips for self-managing COPD and explaining key concepts around physical activity and nutrition.
