Athens 2024: Thursday recap
As our 12th World Conference commenced we were delighted to reconnect with old friends and welcome new faces.
After an introductory event for those participating in our leadership track, delegates were welcomed to Athens with an opening plenary featuring IPCRG President Ee Ming Khoo and Scientific Programme Committee chair Ioanna Tsiligianni.
We then entered our first set of parallel sessions:
- A planetary health session featuring Mayara Floss calling for community engagement and Andrée Rochfort on how primary care can do its part
- Oral presentations on respiratory prescribing including on our perceptions of systemic corticosteroids survey (find out more here: https://lnkd.in/egqgd7-h)
- A workshop from Kim L. Lavoie on motivational communication and behavioural science
- A series of presentations on asthma management and the role of pharmacists
After lunch, delegates participated in a further round of plenaries, conversation cafes and workshops:
- Diagnosing and managing breathlessness with a holistic approach - thank to Gill Doe and Anna Spathis
- Teresa To and Paraskevi Xepapadaki presenting on lung disease in children, focusing on nicotine use and childhood respiratory infections
- A conversation cafe on pulmonary rehabilitation leading to many interesting, in-depth discussions about new research ideas.
- A workshop on building a multidisciplinary team - the first session of this conference to end with singing and dancing but not the last…!
A sponsored symposium on cardiopulmonary risk brought day 1 to a close thanks to John Hurst, Ann Hutchinson and Peter Lin - leaving delegates with much to think about.
